Like many, I remember growing up watching Bob on PBS. One night during one of our Indian Princess campouts with my daughter, I stumbled across Bob and all his Joy of Painting episodes on YouTube. That Christmas, I bought my first Bob Ross Painting Kit and my oil painting journey began. Here are my first few attempts. While the results were a bit discouraging, I knew this was something I enjoyed.
From 2017 – 2024, I continued to paint along with Bob learning different techniques and eventually I would paint some of my own worlds. Here are some of those early works.

Last Painting before getting Bob Ross Certified
In January of 2025, I completed the week long Level I Landscape Certification course at the Bob Ross Workshop in New Smyrna Florida. I returned home and began practicing Bob’s techniques, and began to paint along with Bob in his Joy of Painting® PBS TV Series. In all he aired 403 episodes (31 Seasons with 13 paintings each season), all of which still can be viewed on the Bob Ross YouTube Channel which has over 6+ million followers. https://www.youtube.com/@bobross_thejoyofpainting

In July of 2025, I returned to Bob’s workshop for 2 more weeks and took Level II and Level III Landscape courses. With just 3 days before my birthday (at the age of 52), I completed the CRI® program and became a Certified Ross Instructor® ( CRI ) at the same age Bob was when he passed away in July 1994. Both sad and happy, it reminded me that most things in life are just like how Bob painted with dark and light, you can’t have one without the other. Below are my certification paintings during the 3 week program at Bob’s Workshop.
